About Me

My name is Sarika. I grew up in Deep River, Ontario, and moved with my family to West Kelowna, British Columbia, in 2003. After living in Vancouver to attend grad school, I moved to the Boston area. I currently live in New Hampshire.

The first iteration of this blog was started, I think, in 2012. Several years later, I decided to start a new blog chronicling my European family history (my mom’s family is Filipino), namely the origin of my surname, Kelm, and my paternal grandfather’s ancestors.

I am a librarian and archivist. I started seriously researching family history in 2008, but the seed of my interest was probably a book made for my grandparents’ 50th anniversary. My dad kept it with the family photo albums–a gray binder with photocopied pages telling the story of my grandparents, their children, and their grandchildren. I read it over and over when I was a kid, and sometimes, when I think about why I became an archivist, I think about this book.

I can be contacted at sarika.l.kelm@gmail.com.
